Dr Jean Bélanger, OD, MSc

Dr. Jean Bélanger, Clinique d'Optométrie Bélanger's senior partner, obtained his doctorate in optometry from the University of Montreal's School of Optometry, where he also obtained an MSc in physiological optics.

During his work career, he has served as :

- A clinic manager at the University of Montreal
- A director and clinic manager at the Institut Nazareth et Louis Braille
- A speaker at several symposia and a board member of several organizations.

Dr. Bélanger currently focuses full-time on his practice at the clinic and regularly gives in-home examinations to patients with limited mobility. He is also a member of the professional inspection committee and a clinical assessor with the Canadian Standard Assessment in Optometry (CSAO) as well as a consulting optometrist to a number of nursing homes.


Dre Régina Bizzarro, BSc, OD

Dr. Regina Bizzarro obtained her bachelor's in physiology from McGill University (1996) with a major in neurophysiology. She then completed her doctorate in optometry at the University of Montreal (1999).

During her university studies, she conducted research on nociception and glaucoma. From 1999 to 2004, she was a member of a research group at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital (HMR), directed by Dr. M. R. Lesk, with a primary focus on glaucoma. She has authored various abstracts and other publications on glaucoma.

In 2003, she received the "young optometrist of the year" award.

Dr. Bizzarro has practiced at the Bélanger clinic since 1999. She has also been a clinic manager at the University of Montreal since 2006. She is a member of the committee that writes the questions for the ocular therapeutics exam offered by the Canadian Standard Assessment in Optometry (CSAO). 


Dre Jocelyne Gagné, BSc, OD - Optometrist

A native of Winnipeg, Dr. Gagné has lived in Montreal for the last 15 years.

Dr. Gagné completed her studies at the University of Winnipeg in 1985 with a major in physics and math. After several years of teaching, she returned to university and completed her doctorate in optometry at the University of Montreal in 1998. She joined the Bélanger clinic immediately after obtaining her degree and has worked there full-time ever since.

Besides her highly diversified practice, Dr. Gagné is very active on several committees, notably on one for the Canadian Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Gagné also regularly acts as a contact lens consultant and participates in clinical studies.


Dr Patrick Simard, OD, MSc, MBA, FAAO - Optometrist

Education :

Dr. Patrick Simard has practiced at the Bélanger clinic since obtaining his doctorate in optometry from the University of Montreal in January 2002. In 2006, he obtained an MSc in vision from the same university for his research work on keratoconus. He has been a partner at the clinic since 2006.

Experience and accomplishments :

- Clinician in contact lenses at the University of Montreal's School of Optometry (specializing in gas-permeable lens adjustment, scleral lenses and orthokeratology) since 2003
- Consulting optometrist for a refractive surgery centre (Lasik) between 2002 and 2008
- Member of the committee that writes the questions for the ocular therapeutics exam offered by the Canadian Standard Assessment in Optometry (CSAO)
- Author of several talks and peer-reviewed publications on keratoconus, the cornea and myopia control using personnalize soft contact lenses and orthokeratology.
